Television broadcast placements in Ghana
You will rarely find press in Africa that asserts its independence as vociferously as the media in Ghana. Ghana has a population of about 20 million people and yet boasts numerous radio shows, TV stations and newspapers. We work with various TV and radio stations in Cape Coast and Takoradi.
Our TV stations broadcast to the Central and Western regions in Ghana and cover a wide range of issues from local, regional, national and international news. You will start off by learning the ropes, spending time learning all the production roles. After this, opportunities at this placement are varied and you will be able to gain more specialist experience as a broadcast journalist, broadcast assistant, sound engineer or camera operator. If you have the right stuff, you will also have the opportunity to try presenting programmes in front of a camera!
If you are interested in producing, it is common for those on our TV placements to be given an assignment to produce themselves. In the past, our volunteers have been involved in producing programmes about HIV awareness, health care issues in the community and the national elections.
You won’t necessarily just be working on the news. In the past, participants in this scheme have filmed and appeared in ‘soap operas’ produced by the TV stations so you could become a local star!
Accommodation on this project is at our house in Cape Coast, sharing with the other volunteers on our media, medical, orphanage and teaching projects. For more click here>>
